What is Satellite Direct?

Satellite Direct is one of the many TV-to-PC software, that claims you can watch HDTV channels from all over the world paying only a one-time fee and even it acknowledged that you can safely replace your cable / satellite TV with its software.

The secure payment is handled by ClickBank, leader in the infoproducts market, you can pay trough credit card, debit card or paypal.

Remember that your billing statement will show a debit by ClickBank or CLKBANK*COM and nothing related with Satellite Direct.

After the purchase you will receive the registration code necessary to activate the software.

Installation

The downloaded file is a exe auto installer (for win) 11.5 MB in size; during the setup you will be asked for email ID (the email used during the purchase) and registration key (the code received upon the purchase).

The software

The software is very simple, you can choose the country, the channel, you can rate every channel and view his general info (like genre and language), you can add channels to favorites, view the video in full screen or search for a specific channel. Take a look at the online help to learn more about the functions of Satellite Direct.

This is the first channel I try: I expected a much better quality since this software should replace our cable or satellite TV. This video is about 384 x 282 in size.

We tried many channels, some are better of this one but don't absolutely expect HD quality; some others are even worse.

Some channels don't load and shows an ad spot that invite to buy a Satellite Direct upgrade that will deliver more channels. This spot end with a link to a clickbank order page where you can take a trial of this Satellite Direct advanced version. Be aware bacause as you can see in the screenshot below you pay $4.95 immediately but after one month you will be billed $9.95 monthly.

Some channels are merely advertising spots while others aren't true feeds because if you reset the channel the video start always from the beginning.

Another disappointment: the number of available channels are less than those they have promised; we picked up 10 random countries, we counted the channels and found that all this countries showed far fewer channels than as stated on the satellite direct website:

This video shows a preview of Satellite Direct, you can watch the video quality, listen the audio quality and learn how the software works. I selected random channels and I didn't cut the video to record a more unbiased preview.

Conclusions

Unfortunately Satellite Direct has not kept its promises:

• The poor video quality doesn't allow to replace the cable / satellite TV
• The number of channels available are less respect as reported on the website
• Some channels doesn't load
• Some channels are useless or aren't real feeds

So this is my opinion:

• If your goal is to save money on cable TV or satellite TV bills this software absolutely will not help you and I don't recommend the purchase.
• If you don't have satellite TV and you'd like to see foreign channels or simply you’d like to view some TV channels on your PC without caring of the video quality this software may be suitable for your needs. After all, paying $49.95 one time you have the chance to look at television channels coming from the other side of the globe without paying annoying recurring fees.

   Hello,

   I am a bit curious... I'm very familiar with these products and already know that the number of channels claimed (in this case 3500+) and total channels claimed by other merchants are indeed inaccurate.

   I also know that channels tend to come and go which is to be expected, since Satellite Direct and it'ss competitors (free and paid) don't own any of the free content. I see that Satellite Direct has an "Update" button.

   Did you update the channels on your Satellite Direct TV player first before making a video of it?

   All channels should come from a Satellite Direct database and you should be able to automatically update them I would think. In other words, update broken channel links and add new channels.

   And by the way, I'm okay with the Satellite Direct TV player's picture and sound quality. I'm not too picky and never expected all channels and videos to have superb quality. However, the quality of shows, movies and other free media is very important.

   That said, I also know that when it comes to video quality and high performance, the multimedia and video software inside the computer including connection speed play a vital role.

   By the way, I consider your review to be a very honest and can be appreciated by many who visit this web page. Keep up the good work! :0)

     Hello Byron, thank you for your comment, it's very important for people to express its opinion, I really appreciated it.

     Before making the video I saw that some satellite direct channels didn't work so I pressed the update button but unfortunately this had no effect.

     We agree on the video quality...
